I Will Never Write Self-Help Articles

If you can’t figure it out, what makes you think that I can?

My Confession

I will admit it. I read self-help articles. They are a guilty habit of mine. I am always looking outside myself for ways to fix my life.

I am the last one to think that I have things “together”. Though I am pretty sure my friends and family reading this might disagree, but that is only because I am good at faking it.

Someone Else’s Success Does Not Guarantee Yours

Self-help articles and books are ideas that helped the person who wrote them. That is all they are. They are not a pill, or a spell, or a magic trick. They are just something that someone else found that works for them. FOR THEM.

Someone discovered that getting up at o’dark thirty in the morning made it possible for them to write their 1000 obligatory words a day, and then they achieved everlasting success and fame (not to mention boatloads of money!)

Good for them! I am glad that they found a method that works for them. I am even willing to read about it. But I am tired of reading articles that indicate that their way is the only way, or even the best way.
