Muslim women are supposed to keep their father's surname and not change when they get married. I wasn't Muslim when I married the first time. I couldn't see changing back after I converted. My father was very problematic as well. And the rest of his family was worse. After my first husband died, I cherished the name for a long time. Until, after 5 years, I met someone new. I took his name because, even though he is Muslim and his culture is as well, women do take their husband's surnames. And I am happy with that. The only thing I would change would be making it easier for Americans to say! It is pronounced "SUE-lie", if you were wondering.
