I think that the Basque people whom an international court has ruled have been denied the freedom of speech, and the right to due process, and have been subjected to unwarranted arrests and torture because they believe they are a separate group of people and believe they deserve the right to govern themselves would say otherwise. Spain is not a political paradise. I am not trying to say that you should be invested in their cause. But such statements as I highlighted are false.

Edited to add: I don’t mean to come across as harsh. I just believe strongly that as expats we have the responsibility of not ignoring or burying the ugly parts of where we now live. We don't need to get involved. It isn’t really our place. But ignoring such issues does no one any good either.
