Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday. But now you have me questioning why.

I guess it became so by default when I converted to Islam. It was one holiday I didn't have to give up because it isn't based on religion.

I do love the food. Even the stuffing. EXCEPT the turkey. You nailed it there. Turkey sucks.

In August I moved to Kosovo and this is my first year without Thanksgiving. I had plans of making the big dinner for my family here. But then I thought, why? They aren't really interested and I would just end up disappointed. So I have considered making it for just my husband and I. But no turkey. (He doesn't like turkey and called it out way before I was brave enough to.)

I am not even sure if I will do that. I can't find certain ingredients here. And then I wonder, why do I have to have those foods on that day and not any other? What were we celebrating anyway?

The whole holiday is based on lies and racism. I really think that this year I am going to be ok not doing it.
