Two years ago I moved from the US to Kosovo. In Kosovo, people (usually women) still cook. From scratch. Few prepared convenience foods are sold here. How I cook and eat had to radically change. And for the better. Thankfully, my mother had taught me how to cook. I just didn't use the skills much in America. Over here, my and my husband's health is better than ever and we have both dropped quite a bit of weight. And we enjoy the trip to the outdoor market to buy fresh ingredients every week!
Excellent article. It is a shame that so many people in the Western world are losing the skill to feed themselves. It is a skill that rarely should be outsourced.
